Rossini Reloaded

Gioachino Rossini’s opera music like you’ve never imagined it could be!

The orchestra performs fabulous jazz and rock arrangements of popular tunes from Rossini’s most famous operas including William Tell, La Cenerentola (The Cinderella), Otello, and The Barber of Seville.

Not an opera fan? How about The Lone Ranger and Bugs Bunny?

Featuring a 20-piece ensemble consisting of a full big band, Latin and symphonic percussion, special guests Joan Harrisoncello and Shirley Schoberaccordion and featured soloist Sonya Sweeney, mezzo-soprano.

About the music

These fantastic arrangements come to us courtesy of British composer and arranger, Mike Westbrook. This superb suite of exceptionally groovy and funky arrangements was premiered at the BBC Proms in 1992 and has since been performed throughout Europe to critical acclaim. Come out and hear the Canadian premiere performance of these exhilarating, and at times amusing, arrangements (Rossini was a master of comedic opera). Mike called this suite “Big Band Rossini” and while there’s plenty of great big band writing, there’s also wonderfully varied use of woodwinds, cello, accordion and voice that make this a truly unique listening experience.
